Sex addiction can refer to a range of sexual behaviours that done to excess significantly impact on one life in a particularly negative way such as poor healthy boundaries. Porn addiction is a subset of sex addiction and is characterised by a range of behaviours that are done to excess and negatively impact on one’s life. These may be a disproportionate viewing of porn websites beyond what is considered healthy. Partner catching husband masturbating regularly, affecting intimacy within the relationship, where it becomes increasingly difficult for him to be aroused by normal sexual conduct.
How to identify if I am developing an addiction to sex/porn addiction
A pattern of out-of-control behaviour
Severe consequences due to sexual behaviour
Severe mood changes around sexual activity
Inability to stop despite adverse consequences
Ongoing desire or effort to limit sexual behaviour
Persistent pursuit of self-destructive or high-risk behaviour
You feel powerless over how you act sexually
Your sexual choices are making your life unmanageable
You feel shame embarrassment or self-loathing over your sexual acts
You’re so preoccupied with sex it becomes like a ritual for you
Neglect of important social, occupational, or recreational activities because of sexual behaviour
Intense sexual impulses
Using sex as escape behaviour
Disregarding the consequences of sexual activity
